When I sat down to reflect on my 2024 last December, I found myself at a loss for words. For some reason, I couldn’t recall much about my year, except for the really big moments. So this year, I promised myself I’d pause each month to look back, so that when the year ends, I’ll actually remember what it felt like.
January has dragged on for most people, but for me, it’s flown by. I’ve been plodding along, making small steps toward something. With so much free time, I’ve been able to map out my next move, get creative, and brainstorm new ideas. But if I’m being honest, it hasn’t felt like the start of a new year—at least not in my household. It feels more like December never really ended, like I’m still waiting for my fresh start.
I blame football. January is all about the NFL playoffs, and it’s been a stressful, anxious few weeks. If I’m being really honest, my new year doesn’t officially start until after the Super Bowl. That’s when the season finally ends, the slate is wiped clean, and things can really begin.
So here’s a look back at my January (I can’t believe it’s over already!).
Picture of the month
My daughter laying face down for a few minutes, completely still. At first, I checked to make sure she wasn’t falling asleep. She wasn’t, so I just let her be. Sometimes, we all just need a moment.
I watched as she stayed there, lost in whatever thoughts (or non-thoughts) were passing through her little mind. Then, just as suddenly as she went down, she popped back up, singing along to whatever song was playing in the background like nothing had happened. I love this little girl.
Song of the Month
Dance with a Stranger by Lake Street Dive.
I always seem to discover new artists when Apple Music goes rogue—playing random songs after I create a station from one I already love. I’m so glad this one came on. It’s so good and instantly fills me with joy.
