This was a brave share and I applaud you for it. As a product of a fractured home, I can relate to much of what you said. I still remember the knots I’d feel in my stomach whenever my came to visit me and shuttling between two homes. But anywho, well done and much love to you and your husband and the family you’re cultivating.
Omg I love this so much - I teared up so many times. Not only because I can literally see and here this from your POV..but, also because it isn't too far off from my own story. Here's to acknowledging our past, our childhood, but more importantly like you mentioned, our today. Our future. I'm so happy to have witnessed your 'today' unfold... (and you coming around to your husband haha). I'm excited for baby girl, and the experiences/memories she has had and will have. I love you Dre, and your vulnerability has always been so refreshing. Here's to more columns, unearth truths, and fruit for the future. <3
Aja is that you!? Thank you so much for reading for sharing your thoughts! I read your comment in your voice hahah miss you girl 💜 you need to write your story too, I’d read it in a heart beat
I love the picture of you & your siblings now- what an attractive bunch- and it's beautiful to know your child has that father figure you always needed and wanted. Breaking cycles! I can relate to much of this story, too. Not the three siblings thing, lol- but the new stepdad thing. What a weird, difficult time. If I may be so bold, you might enjoy (or at least relate to) my short memoir piece "Nesting" 🪺🩵
